About this deal

You might get some mileage out of moving the saddle forwards on its rails, but that will also change your position with respect to the pedals. These bar end caps come in two types in my experience, the type which you press in and the type with an expanding part which clamps the bar end cap in place when you tighten the bolt. These have a width of 525 mm and a stem height which is quoted as 300 mm but which I measure as 280 mm. Bicycles Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for people who build and repair bicycles, people who train cycling, or commute on bicycles.

I'd need longer cables too, and maybe a wider seat in case the increased weight on it makes it uncomfortable, but it's still cheaper and I end up with a better bike than in option 1. In the context of road cycling, people often recommend yoga and core strength exercises to help get you more comfortable in a lower riding position – I assume the same would apply in your case. Some of these are junk (and single speed), but some are pretty good (and 7 speed, with probably a few 21 speed units).

For most utility bike usage, the most convenient handlebar shapes are the "North Road" shape as used on traditional British bikes, or the "parallel" shape also used in the Netherlands. While the swept back angle is more natural for the wrists, I feel it is the upright position that takes all the pressure off your hands and wrists.

There are variations, from the wide flared bars like the Nitto Albatross, to North Roads to porteur handlebars.

I did consider bars like what you described, but I went with what has been working for me on the other two bikes. Using dutch style handlebars is definitely an option but depending on your needs you might still need to increase the stem height (adjust it if there is extra length left or replace it if it's already at or near its extension limit).I used to have a dutch-style bike and I found it much more comfortable than my current one, even though it was way too small for me. These bikes have a surprisingly tall frame, which allows the rider an excellent view of the road in front of them. Maybe it was related to a combination of causes specific to me, but I always found braking on a drop bar with brifters to be a bit awkward. While I realize a road bike with Dutch handlebars would not be accepted by my roadie friends, my hands do not care about that.
